Genre: Young Adult

Hell School: Fresh Meat is the first in a series that follows Sam through her first year of high school in a new part of the country. She has to adjust to new friends and a new culture while dealing with her parents' divorce and being so far away from her father and friends. She has to deal with the difficulties of being taller than most and everyone thinking she is older than she is and how it makes it so hard to fit in, especially when her interests differ so much from those around her. Her biggest struggle her freshman year of high school is with the early signs of a stalker.

Heidi does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and their interactions were very real. My favorite character was probably Mike. What an awesome friend! The emotions as the letters started coming seemed believable, too. At first it was kind of weird and she wondered who it could be, but as the letters got creepier and creepier she realized this was very wrong. Since the stalker had done nothing to harm her, nothing could be done by the school. She just had to tolerate it.

This story seems to be setting things up for the rest of the story in future installments of the series. I do think this is a great series to get youth to understand how stalking can start off in very innocent ways and build into something frightening. I look forward to seeing how Sam handles everything in her sophomore year.

Heidi Angell: The scariest part about this book was that it's based on events that actually took place in

Heidi's life. She actually had a stalker. Scary, right?
