The Idea for The Guardian World

The Guardian world that Christine Eller and I have created started from an odd source. Now, before I give you too much, know that from the idea came four book outlines to make a series and a prequel... that's five books total! Crazy, right? Well, the idea came from me. I had a dream where Christine and I were teens again (we grew up together) and we were leaving church from an activity. We were on our way to the parking lot when we were suddenly chased by these crazy squirrels. We couldn't get in my car fast enough and the mutant squirrels attacked us. While we were struggling to fight them off, I suddenly became a powerful fighter. I could fight! Christine suddenly gained magical powers and we began fighting these mutant squirrels. When we killed them, they turned human. That was the moment we realized they were not normal squirrels, not even normal mutant squirrels.
We survived and climbed in our car quickly, locked the doors, and just sat there! The fighting was over. Then this little, round man, with circular spectacles began walking across the parking lot towards us. He arrived at my driver side window so I cracked it. He then told me he was part of The High and he was there to invite us to join his school. Their job was to train us to to fight The Were (as in were-wolves or were-squirrels).
Shortly after that, I woke up. It was very weird. I have weird dreams all the time. Since this one involved Christine, I had to call her! I told her all about my crazy dream, so she said we should each write a short story on how we saw this dream happening. It was fun. We sent them to each other and then we thought, "What if we wrote a book?" So, we did. Then we thought, "What if we could turn this into a series?" So, we wrote an outline for three more books. Then we thought, "What if we could publish it?" So, that's what we're working on now. My incredibly vivid dream has turned into this whole world that has occupied so much of our lives. It's been crazy!
Okay, now that I've explained the dream, I'll explain how we split up the writing. We were worried about the book sounding like it was written by two people and both our styles of writing not blending well into forming one voice. Our solution was to write it in first person from two different people - Lydia, the Witch, and Renee, the Warrior. Since my dream was of Christine as the Witch and me as the Warrior, those are the characters we took over writing for. What a trip it has been!
When you hear people talk about write those dreams down, seriously do it! You never know what may come from that dream. Perhaps the creation of an entire world could occur. Wouldn't that be cool?
Thank you for reading and may your dreams come true, as mine have.
