This little treasure is beautiful. It's about a young boy, Tyler, who's little brother, Trevor, is hurt and taken to the hospital where he ends up dying. Tyler then has to deal with the fact that his little brother isn't coming home.
Okay, so the way I worded that wasn't very delicate, but the way Ginger Sanders does is beautiful. The friend in the story explains to Tyler about how his brother is like a firefly. It's a beautiful analogy about us being the fireflies in a jar and then we are set free. I think it's the perfect story to help children deal with loss. I will admit, I am no stranger to loss and this story made me cry even though it is a children's picture book. It's beautifully worded! The illustrations are also gorgeous! They have the most beautiful colors!
It also should be noted that this is CHRISTIAN. There are a few scripture verses written within the illustrations and at the end. There are no scripture verses quoted in the actual words of the story, but they do talk about Jesus. In the back of the book there is even a page titled, "Leading A Child to Christ" as a resource for parents. Lots of scriptures are quoted there and even a sample prayer.
Overall, I think this story is beautifully told with gorgeous illustrations, so I give this story FOUR stars: ****
Tracy Broome is the illustrator and Ginger Sanders is the author. To learn more about these two then check out their websites.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
