Are you concerned about the changing political climate? Are you feeling unsettled, confused, or anxious? What impact will this have on my family, life, and business?
I’m going to share how to weather the storm and stay on course by utilizing principles the ancient Samurai of Japan lived by, no matter the situation.
You may wonder how the wisdom of the Samurai could help me in this chaotic world. These principles from the Code of Bushido (The Way of the Warrior) can assist you in navigating through today’s tumultuous waters. In this article, we will concentrate on Courage…
Courage is a word that tends to conjure visions of soldiers, firefighters, or those that are in the field of law enforcement; what we would consider protectors. However, courage is a character trait that goes far beyond that realm.
Meriam Webster describes courage as mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. The Japanese word for courage is yuuki and means bravery of spirit. Courage is not foolhardy; it is a determination to succeed regardless of the circumstances.
Are you allowing circumstances to hold you back? Or do you put your shoulder to the task, move forward, and encourage others along the way? Although this may be a time of uncertainty, it is not time to abandon your vision or succumb to the hype that surrounds us. It is understandable to react in uncertain times, but it is your response that is important.
Recently, the movie “Sully” was released recounting the ‘Miracle on Hudson River.’ On January 15, 2009, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III’s plane struck a flock of Canada geese. Based on his experience and knowledge, he responded to the dangerous situation. With a cool head, he successfully brought in his passenger plane to a safe landing on the Hudson River, and saved all 155 passengers aboard. Captain Sullenberger was the last to leave the aircraft demonstrating courage, leadership, and selflessness. When the stakes are so high, how do you make the right decision?

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers it.”
~ Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela’s quote aptly describes what we understand about courage. The samurai code of Bushido can be your anchor in a sea of turmoil, and a guide through the maze of life. Are you ready to live a life of courage? If so, then sharpen your sword, and let the journey begin!
