Blurb from Goodreads: Fluffy is a proud and noble cat from a long line of proud and noble cats. Into her world comes an irritating and completely unnecessary kitten. He resists all her attempts to impart her vast stores of wisdom and knowledge to him. Soon Fluffy becomes accustomed to his face. He almost makes the day begin. Fluffy ends up learning some valuable life lessons. She hates valuable life lessons.
My Thoughts: This was a cute diary from the point of view of an adult cat. She's an adult cat who is very confident in her wisdom. It's humorous to read, because if you know anything about cats, you know this is exactly what they're thinking anytime they look at you. They know they're better and "two legs" were put on this earth to clean up after them. :D I do love my cat, though.
The concern I have about this book is that it's a children's picture book. Children's literature is one of my favorite genres. I think it's the teacher in me. I'm always thinking how I can turn this into a lesson. Picture books are normally given to early elementary students learning to read. By 2nd grade, most students are reading chapter books. However, before you give this book to that early elementary student, be sure they understand how to use a dictionary, because most first and second graders I know wouldn't know the definition to some of the words used in this book, such as - remorse, neglectful, ingratiate, besotted, devious, immaculate or heedless. Of course, that's not a bad thing. It may be a great opportunity to increase your early elementary student's vocabulary, but be prepared to help your child/student with these words.
Also, Cruz did an excellent job with the illustrations. They were just beautiful.
Overall, I'd give this three stars. ***
