Synopsis: Jacque Pierce was just an ordinary 17-year-old girl getting ready to start her senior year in high school in Coldspring, Texas. When a mysterious foreign exchange student from Romania moves in across the street, Jacque and her two best friends, Sally and Jen, don't realize the last two weeks of their summer are going to get a lot more interesting. From the moment Jacque sets eyes on Fane she feels an instant connection, a pull like a moth to a flame. Little does she know that the flame she is drawn to is actually a Canis lupis, werewolf, and she just happens to be his mate; the other half of his soul. The problem is Fane is not the only wolf in Coldspring, Texas. Just as Fane and Jacque are getting to know each other, another wolf steps out to try and claim Jacque as his mate. Fane will now have to fight for the right to complete the mating bond, something that is his right by birth but is being denied him by a crazed Alpha. Will the love Fane has for Jacque be enough to give him the strength to defeat his enemy, will Jacque accept that she is Fane's mate and complete the bond between them?
Plot (5 stars): The storyline was so fun. Once I got into it, I was hooked. I needed to know what happened next. werewolves, romance, snarky girls... it was definitely a fun read!
Characters (3 stars): Some of the characters were definitely fun. I really loved Jacque's friends - Jen and Sally. They had great personalities and were pretty humorous throughout the book. I think they were one of the main reasons the story moved along.
Jacque, she was fun, too. She was feisty and expressed all sorts of emotions. Not a lot of character development or anything, but this entire book happens within a few days, so I guess she doesn't change much in that time period.
Now for Fane. He's the love interest - the male protagonist. He's the one I should be drooling over (at least figuratively), but I wasn't. He's character is so flat. He's like the "perfect" guy (read: boring). He has little personality. He just cares about Jacque. He's madly in love with her. He lives to protect her and love her. It's sort of sickening. Lukas, the bad guy, should have been in the book a lot more as well. By the end of the book, I am often strongly disliking the antagonist, but I literally had no feelings of any kind toward this guy. He was just a character in the book. We see him one time (very briefly) before the final fight.
Writing (1 star): I had trouble with the writing.... commas in the wrong places, possessive and plural mixed up, typos, words inserted that weren't supposed to be there, double words...etc. It was bad. It was like no one proofed this book. It needed an editor. On top of that, so many things were repeated. A character would think something, and then in the dialogue the character would state it in the next paragraph. It caused for a lot of redundancy throughout the book and I found it distracting.
Overall Thoughts (average 3 stars): On Amazon, this book has 4.3 stars and on Goodreads it has 4.6 stars. I will admit that this rating surprised me. The story line was really good and sucks the reader in, but all the grammatical, spelling, and typing errors are so distracting. Everyone makes these types of mistakes, and when self publishing, one expects a few. Even the big time publishers let a few slip by. However, this was a lot of errors that need to be fixed. I'm averaging the three categories above and giving it....
